This week we asked the authors of Unjunk Your Junk Food to give us some healthy snack ideas that are also quick and easy (because really, who isn't time-strapped?). Here are the 3 top picks:
1. Homemade Trail Mix
Combine any type of nuts (raw), dried (unsulfured) fruits, as well as
dark chocolate chips into a bowl and mix together. The nuts provide
protein and fiber which help balance blood sugar, and the fruit provides
fiber and minerals which help stave off hunger.
2. Hard Boiled Eggs
Pre-hard boil a dozen eggs and refrigerate for a grab-and-go snack when
you are in a hurry (or late for work). Couple with some high-fiber
crackers or vegetables. The eggs will stay fresh in the refrigerator for
up to a week.
3. Granola Yogurt
An easy snack to prepare when you are in a hurry is to grab a yogurt,
add some granola and drizzle with honey. This will provide
carbohydrates, protein, and fiber, and the honey can help keep your
blood sugar stable.
