If you've never had the pleasure of taking a trip out east to New Brunswick, I highly recommend it. I just returned from my first-ever trip to NB and I cannot say enough great things about my time there. I was visiting to check out the local wild blueberry farms through the Wild Blueberry Association of North America and from the warm weather to lovely people, it was a great getaway. Now, let's get down to business: the food. If you're a seafood fan, then New Brunswick is definitely for you. If you're a fan of blueberries, then you need to pack your bags and head over there now!

Canada is the number 1 wild blueberry producer in the world and after sampling the berries in NB, it's not surprising! There are so many different flavours that it's hard to stop at only a few handfuls. From sweet to tart, wild blueberries will delight your taste buds. (Fun fact: along with all of the other benefits of blueberries, it turns out that one of their main health benefits is aiding in the transition that your eyes go through when going from light to dark. Eating blueberries can make that transition smoother and faster!)

From blueberry cakes and pies, to endless varities of mussels and oysters, and of course lobster, there's no denying that New Brunswick takes its food scene seriously. Local oysters were definite standouts, as was the several different ways that lobster was prepared. Check out the gallery below for everything from lobster poutine to lobster grilled cheese.

Perhaps the most interesting dish that I had the pleasure of trying in New Brunswick was poutine râpée, which is a traditional Acadian dish. Mashed and grated potatoes are made into a ball and stuffed with pork and then boiled for up to 5 hours. They are then sprinkled with brown sugar and served hot. Amazing!
