Hey, Top Chef Canada fans! What did you think of the premiere episode of season three? If you haven't watched it yet, check it out here! You can also head to the bios page to get to know the judges and contestants. That being said, watch out for major spoilers below.
Now, let's get started. After settling in for the season and getting acquainted, the chefs head over to meet Lisa and Mark for a Quickfire Challenge. This particular challenge was a culinary skills relay race, meaning the chefs were split into teams of four and each team member had to quickly complete a task before the next member could step up to the plate. The challenges were as follows: shucking oysters, preparing 150 grams on mirepoix (equal parts celery, onions and carrots), segmenting four lemons, and cleaning and dressing a beef tenderloin. The team who completed the challenge the fastest was Team Red, made up of Frederick, Geoff, Jonathan and Nicole.
For the elimination challenge, the chefs were told to prepare a version of the first dish that inspired them each to become a chef. They had $100 and 20 minutes to shop, and only 90 minutes to cook. This week's surprise guest judge was none other than Chef Chuck Hughes, who contestant Danny Smiles currently works under. Talk about pressure! Check out the gallery below to see what each of the chefs prepared.
After much deliberation, the judges settled on their top 3 dishes, which belonged to Dan H, Becky and Matthew, with Matthew coming away with the $5000 prize for best dish.
On the other end of the spectrum, the bottom 3 dishes belonged to Chris C (who had too much going on), Frederick (whose dish was deemed to plain and average), and Kayla (who intended on making chicken and waffles and didn't have time to finish preparing the waffles).
In the end, Frederick was eliminated for his overly simple dish.
