In the show’s premiere episode, called Underwater Safari, the team had two separate challenges to take on: the first was creating an Under the Sea themed party for a 4-year-old girl’s birthday, while the second was putting together an elephant display for an African-themed gala. Two completely different yet difficult tasks, but the stars seemed ready to take on whatever challenge was thrown their way.

First up was the Under the Sea party for 4-year-old Sophia. The team set out to create banana sandcastle muffins, marshmallow octopuses and a gorgeous 3-tiered chocolate bubble cake. They ran into some trouble when they try to make cake pops for the very first time but thanks to some brilliant decorating skills, they were able to pull it off. Weren’t the brown sugar sandcastle muffins such an adorable idea?

When it came to the African-themed gala, things proved to be a bit more challenging. Elle and Yolanda were given the task of creating an edible display in the shape of a giant elephant. With some creativity, they decided to cover a foam elephant in hundreds of macarons, cupcakes, and candies.

Unfortunately, foam is incredibly fragile and the display began to fall apart. The tusks broke off not once, but twice! Nerve-racking to watch, wasn’t it? Eventually, with the help of knight in shining armour Caspar, the elephant was completed and to say the gala guests were blown away would be a massive understatement.

Next up was episode 2, New Baby on the Block.

The team had two very different projects to tackle: a sweet table for party celebrating a newborn baby, as well as one for none other than Jordan Knight of New Kids on the Block. Exciting stuff, right? It was all made so much more adorable by the fact that Elle and Yolanda are die-hard Jordan Knight fans. Their teenage girl-like fandom was absolutely endearing.

When it came to the “Welcome to the World” party for the baby, there were no cliché children’s treats to be found. Instead, the team went for a sophisticated and polished look. The term ‘baby chic’ could not have been more appropriate. For Jordan Knight’s pre-concert VIP party, it was all about the junk food. Cakes and cookies were made to look like french fries, dumplings and fried noodles, and the results were spectacular. However, the keyboard cake made by Yolanda really stole the show. Which creative dessert was your favourite?

It’s impossible to talk about SugarStars without mentioning how hilarious and charming each team member is, right? From Antonella’s silly, self-deprecating sense of humour, to Caspar’s brilliant one-liners, it’s easy to see why this show is sure to be a hit with viewers. Who could resist Antonella’s bikini jokes?

Overall, SugarStars seems to be off to a great start. Elle, Yolanda, Caspar and Antonella are a delight to watch and the chemistry between the four of them is undeniable. (Bonus points for Antonella’s zany and offbeat sense of humour).

Did you watch SugarStars last night? What did you think? Who’s your favourite SugarStar?
