Mark McEwan is perhaps best known to Food Network fans as the head judge on Top Chef Canada. A successful restaurateur and cookbook author, Mark is involved in a number of pursuits including a catering business, a line of "heat and serve" food products, and McEwan - a market for gourmands and those who live to entertain. Mark’s highly acclaimed eateries (North 44, Bymark, One, and Fabbrica) are favourites of Italia-phile Torontonians.
Last Thursday, a small group of culinary enthusiasts gathered at McEwan grocery for a shop tour and a tasting of soiree-ready hors d'oeuvres. McEwan is a dream for time-crunched-would-be-entertainers as it is stocked with high quality ready-to-eat, heat and serve and simple party fare. The culinary event, presented by Air Miles, then moved to Fabbrica, where guests were treated to an Italian feast of menu favourites complete with wine pairings. As we are entering the season of entertaining, I was thrilled to get some ideas from Mark himself.
As an added bonus, several of the dishes served that evening are featured in Fabbrica the cookbook, and are simple enough for home cooks. I definitely will be adding the Beef Short Ribs to my festive repertoire.
