These days, I can't get enough of cherries. To me,
nothing says summer like a big bowl of sweet red cherries.
I have fond memories of cherry picking with my family in British
Columbia as a kid, and stuffing myself silly in the process. You
can try picking your own in your area. Check out this site with a
list of pick-your-own farms across Canada - PickYourOwn.org.
When I was at Chez Panisse in California recently, one of
the desserts on the menu was a bowl of Cannard Farm Royal Ann and
Bing cherries ($8).
Whether you have them fresh, or in a luscious pie, like this one
from Madeleines, Cherry Pie and Ice Cream, adorable little
café in Toronto I just discovered, it's one of my favourite signs
of summer.
Now it's your turn. What food signals long lazy
summers? Please post your comments below.
