Chef Curtis Stone was in Toronto recently to promote his new cookbook, Good Food, Good Life. I’m a big fan of this cookbook – and a big fan of Chef Curtis. He’s so down to earth, seriously sweet and lovely (not to mention very tall and handsome).

There are tons of personal recipes in the cookbook that reflect how the Stone family eat and cook together. I also love seeing all the pictures of his adorable son and his gorgeous wife, Lindsay Price. This is a man who loves his family and there’s nothing sexier than that.

But he did confess that he forgot his wife’s first Mother’s Day (doh!). To be fair, in Australia, where Chef Curtis hails from, Mother’s Day falls on a different day and the guy had a ton on his plate — new restaurant, new cookbook, new baby… Oh my.

This year he won’t be making the same mistake of forgetting this memorable occasion. Here are a few tips to making Mother’s Day special:

Tip #1: Remember the date! This year it falls on Sunday, May 10.

Tip #2: Do something out of the ordinary. Chef Curtis knew he had to up the ante to make up for forgetting Mother’s Day, so the following year, he surprised his wife with a 12-piece mariachi band.

Tip #3: A small intimate celebration goes a long way. He and his adorable son Hudson made Lindsay’s favourite food – Mexican – and they had an intimate meal at home al fresco listening to the Mariachi band.
