Food in the Fast Lane
"Food In The Fast Lane" looks at the hectic pace of family life
through the eyes of an average Canadian family.
The Hayes' live in Uxbridge, Ontario. Both parents
work, and the kids lead very active lives with swimming
lessons, acrobatics, basketball and ballet. Although
their active lifestyle has enriched the family, it has
taken its toll in the kitchen.
Jeff Hayes is the General Manager of a local car dealership,
and volunteers his spare time to organizations like
Habitat for Humanity. His current idea of a three-course
meal is cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate shake.
Mary Pat Hayes is a grade one teacher who can easily
take command of a room full of six year olds. But her
growing dependence on the microwave has her worried.
Constantly on the go, Mary Pat teaches acrobatics and
dance and is very involved in community theatre.
Jeff and Mary Pat have three children: twelve-year-old
Robert who has just received permission to use the stove,
eight-year-old Bryan, who unlike Mikey will eat just
about anything and Claire, a four-year-old ballerina
with a flair for dramatics.
The Hayes family, like thousands of other Canadians,
find themselves on a treadmill they can't seem to get
off. Constantly grabbing food on the run and often relying
on fast food to feed the kids on the way to practice,
it seems they're always in a hurry.
"Food In The Fast Lane" has enlisted the
help of two Kraft Kitchen Experts to assist the Hayes'
in getting control in the kitchen. Kraft Kitchens Experts
Susanne Stark and Cayla Runka are moving in with the
family for a day to offer advice and simple food ideas.
Together with Jeff, Mary Pat and the kids, Susanne
and Cayla have come up with family food solutions that
are quick, easy, and delicious. With the
pressure of getting a balanced meal on the table lifted,
the family can now enjoy mealtime.
