Manic Organic

Manic Organic is an entertaining and visually rich gardening and cuisine series that tells the story of organic produce as it makes its journey from farm field to dinner table.

The series is hosted by organic grower Antony John who supplies top restaurants in Toronto, Niagara and Stratford from his farm near Sebringville, Ontario, just outside of Stratford.

Each episode follows a main vegetable and two side vegetables through the life cycle from planting out as seeds to nurturing in the garden without pesticides and finally harvesting and cooking. Along the way Antony, with his own unique brand of humour, demonstrates how viewers can employ organic techniques in their own home gardens.

Occasionally Antony is called upon to help out in the kitchen of one of the local restaurants in Stratford, which he supplies with organic vegetables from his farm.

Antony John

Antony John was born in 1960 in Gilfach Goch, a mining town in the Rhondda Valley in Wales. He moved to Canada in 1970 where the woodlands and seasons of Southwestern Ontario provided a new experience for the young naturalist.

While obtaining an Honours Degree in Wildlife Biology from the University of Guelph, he met his wife Tina Vandenheuval who introduced him to the world of farming.

Antony worked on the Vandenheuval Farm for 10 years during which he became a respected Canadian naturalist painter. His interest turned to organic farming and he began supplying local restaurants in Southwestern Ontario in 1994. Today on their 80-acre farm, Antony and Tina grow their gourmet greens and 50 varieties of vegetables. Marketed under the name Soiled Reputation, their produce is sold to restaurants, retail stores, and home customers in Toronto, Niagara, London, St. Mary’s and Stratford.
