Feasting on Asphalt

Feasting on Asphalt is about eating on the move. Alton Brown takes a small band of hunter/gatherers and meanders from sea to shining sea. They travel every kind of road there is—from forgotten ribbons of gravel to the great arterial superhighways which have come to dominate and define American life. Along the way, they'll contemplate every aspect of eating on the go—from the luck pickings of foraging in the forest, to camp cooking, to the evolution of those "road food" icons: the diner, the truck stop, and even the corporate fast food chain. Alton and company will also eat (and cook) in churches, community centres, VFW halls, RV parks and homes of folks nice enough to offer a weary traveler a meal. They'll meet a lot of folks and break bread with them.

Alton Brown

Raised in his mother's and grandmother's kitchens, Alton Brown worked as a cook throughout high school and college. But he never considered a career in food until—after a decade working as a cinematographer and video director—he realized that he spent all his time between shoots watching cooking shows, reading cookbooks and, yes, eating. Alton lives in Atlanta with his wife DeAnna, two worthless hound dogs and a beautiful daughter named Zoey.
