Man-Made Food

They're cute, they're sexy and they can cook. They are Dave Burnett, Joel Rousell and Steven Moore, the hosts of Man Made Food who create menus that are easy to prepare and full of flavour. From a romantic dinner and wine tasting to a camping weekend and a potluck, in each episode of this 39-part series the talented trio prepares a simple and impressive meal for a specific occasion, incorporating diverse ingredients and a variety of cooking techniques.

Steven Moore

Host: Steven Moore

Steven Moore is one of the three co-hosts of Food Network Canada's series, Man Made Food, A self-described food enthusiast, Moore’s love of food, along with his charismatic personality, caught the attention of the producers of Man Made Food while he was working behind the scenes in post-production at Alliance Atlantis Communications’ studios. He is thrilled to be pairing his love of television and food, and to be learning from and working alongside co-hosts Chef David Burnett and Chef Joel Rousell, in his television debut.

Moore’s television career started at Stephen Leacock Collegiate in Scarborough, Ontario where he took a television production program that would steer him in the direction of audio post-production for film and television. After working in a sound studio for a year, Moore decided to pursue further education and attended the University of Windsor, graduating in 1998 with a BA in Mass Communications.

For the past six years, Moore has worked as a Re-recording Mixer Assistant at Casablanca Magnetic North. Over the years he has worked on a variety of films, MOW’s, and television series broadcast in Canada and internationally.

Moore is an accomplished home cook and loves to sample new restaurants. In addition, he enjoys a variety of sports including soccer, football, basketball and track and field. Steven and his wife who live in Markham, Ontario have just had their first child. In his spare time he likes to workout, MC at parties and watch Seinfeld.

Dave Burnett

Host: Dave Burnett

Chef David Burnett is one of the three co-hosts of Food Network Canada'sMan Made Food, Burnett's culinary path started at the age of 19 at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario where he studied Food & Beverage Management. He later went on to Stratford Chef School in Stratford, Ontario where he honed his skills experimenting with an eclectic variety of cuisines and variety of unique cooking styles. Burnett develops his menus by drawing on French, Italian, East Asian and Canadian cuisines and, along with Burnett’s passion for cooking, as an avid wine enthusiast he also enjoys the challenge of menu planning. He takes great pride in understanding and researching the origins of the food he works with.

Burnett now enjoys teaching others about his passion and had instructed at Loblaws Cooking School for over four years, in addition to teaching at the Culinary School of London. He has also worked at La Casa Ristorante and La Costa in London, Ontario.

When Burnett’s not in the kitchen, he is outside enjoying a game of pick-up soccer or spending time with his family. He enjoys hosting dinner parties or going out to sample other culinary talents.

Joel Rousell

Host: Joel Rousell

While attending a private culinary college in Hamilton, Joel was recruited by the Church Restaurant in Stratford, where he began his career as a fine dining chef. During two seasons apprenticing there he made his way through the kitchen—working in pastry and garde manger before taking on the duties of entremetier and saucier.

Joel attributes his most important education, however, to the two and a half years he spent at Avalon working long hours under acclaimed chef Christopher McDonald. It was in this kitchen that he completed his long held goal of becoming an accomplished saucier.

As part of the opening team at Toronto’s celebrated Perigee restaurant, Joel recently appeared in the pages of Toronto Life magazine. Working with other ex-Avalon staff, he has helped keep the thirty-five seat spot in the limelight since it opened in October of 2003.

A fervent collector of Danish teak and professional culinary equipment, Joel keeps his friends shaking their heads with constant additions to his impressive collection of vintage Eames chairs. Living on the Toronto waterfront with his wife Kim, he enjoys boat watching and throwing elaborate dinner parties. In his spare time he grooves to old-school Johnny Cash and attends to an ever-growing indoor forest.
