Opening Soon

The glamour, the power, the fast friends, the food. How many of us actually have a secret desire to open up our own restaurant? Seductive, trendy, ethnic, festive. Every time you turn your head, a new restaurant seems to pop up. . . Urban dandelions, too numerous to count. U.S. Restaurant Industry sales are expected to top 1 trillion dollars in 2001, and one third of all American adults have worked in the industry at some time in their lives. Come on, how difficult can it be? In 1999, 274 restaurants opened in New York City alone, however, 96 of them closed! Last year, 1396 Canadian restaurant owners filed for bankruptcy. It’s not as easy as it looks. Is there any room for fun? You bet there is!

Opening Soon is a weekly, half hour, behind-the-scenes series capturing all of the stages of launching a new restaurant: the designing of the space, the hiring of the staff, the details of menu planning and food choices, as well as the many hurdles and setbacks - - all leading up to the last day of finishing touches, and then finally. . . The Big Night! The real focus of Opening Soon is on the ambitions and talents of the restaurateurs, the personalities and interactions of the bustling staff, and the ensuing dramas that will surface before the all important, make-or-break Opening. Each week, the viewer will be introduced to a new cast of characters from a different location across the country. The key ingredients necessary for success - along with all of the significant breakthroughs and troubling pitfalls - will be packaged into a colorful, fast-paced half hour: The Owner. The Chef. The Location. The Atmosphere. The Dish. The Staff. The Big Night. Entertaining, Informative, Suspenseful and Revealing. . . Will it be a Big Night or Last Night?. . . Tune in to see!

Even though she had no experience cooking, she started her own business, delivering home cooked meals to the huge Indo-Canadian community in the northwest suburbs of Toronto, where she lives.
