Just One Bite

For some families, meal time is a hassle, stressful or just plain boring—but it doesn't have to be! Just One Bite is a brand new Canadian series for parents who are tired of eating chicken nuggets every night because that's what their kids want. Hosted by two chefs, Just One Bite is going to help change the way families make dinner by introducing parents to healthy adult recipes that can also be prepared in a kid-friendly way. Chef and author of Cook Once a Week/Eat Well Every Day, Theresa Albert works with the parents on the adult friendly meal, while co-chef and winner of Food Network's 2005 Superstar Chef Challenge, Dana McIntyre, works with a panel of kids in the test kitchen. Family dinners will never be the same again!

Theresa Albert

Host: Theresa Albert

When Theresa Albert was asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, she said she wanted to be a paediatrician. While she's not a doctor, she does help remedy family food problems as a personal chef, author and host of the Food Network's new family cooking show, Just One Bite.

As host of Just One Bite, Theresa Albert believes that it is very important for families to learn how to cook: "Parents today are in a hurry and the family meal has become a chore instead of a labour of love," says Albert. "I hope we can find the love!"

She feels that audiences will benefit from Just One Bite because it deals with real families, in real mealtime situations, and will shed some insight on common mealtime dilemmas regarding children and what they eat. “Kids are getting the short end of the stick when they eat out of a box day after day, both socially and nutritionally. If I can share what I know to help one more kid love food and eat well, I will have done my job.”

Albert's culinary escapades began many years ago, after attending the George Brown Hotel School, where she was educated in hotel business management. Although briefly straying from her food roots to sharpen her business skills in the hotel and marketing industry, she returned to her cooking background when she created Thyme for Supper, a personal chef business providing meals for busy families so they can sit down to dinner together. Real family food was Theresa’s goal then, as it is now. She also has extensive experience teaching cooking to both adults and children.

Albert's cookbook, Cook Once a Week: Eat Well Everyday, teaches families to prepare meals for an entire week ahead of time. Freezing the pre-prepared food in portions allows families to have a healthy meal each day without the added stress and effort.

While hosting Just One Bite, Albert is developing a second cookbook and is hopeful the future will bring more opportunities to pass on her honest, healthy home cooking knowledge.
