Sweet Genius is a sugar-packed competition series that challenges America's premier pastry chefs to create magical and inventive desserts given inspiration, surprise ingredients and a finite amount of time. The chefs must compete in three unique pastry challenges judged by Ron Ben-Israel — the Sweet Genius himself — who will critique their work and determine who will receive the $10,000 cash prize.
In the first test of genius, the chefs are inspired by some canine cuteness for their breakfast food and bland bread chocolate desserts. In the second test, the chefs get an entertaining inspiration, peanuts and a sweet drink. With two chefs left competing for the title of Sweet Genius, a charming, chiming object gets the chefs' imaginations ticking. But who will be able to make the better cake from a supermarket treat and an aromatic grass?
Where there's smoke, there's inspiration! The chefs must find a way to make a chewy fruit and meaty hors d'oeuvres work in their chocolate desserts. In the candy test, as they seek to combine a Middle Eastern dip with a desert delight, the chefs must be inspired by a Native American talisman. The final two chefs get biblical and try to stay afloat by making the best cake pairing their two mandatory ingredients.
Chef Ron introduces the chefs to his rockin' first inspiration, and it's crunch time when the chefs get a fruity cereal as a mandatory ingredient. In the second test, the chefs learn that there is no place like Chef Ron's world of desserts while making candy confections made with a strawberry drink and a yellow pepper. And the finalists get a fiesta favorite as an inspiration, but will they be partying when they see the mandatory ingredients?
The heat is on with an erupting volcano as the inspiration for the first test. Will the chefs' chocolate desserts made from pink beans and an exotic fruit explode with flavor? In the second test, as if combining an oversized treat with a green mash were not a tough enough challenge, the chefs must also keep in mind Chef Ron's wild inspiration. An enchanting figure inspires the chefs in the final test, but the real magic will be making a berry drink and matzoh into genius cakes.
In the mood for mistletoe and merriment, Chef Ron has a host of holiday surprises for the competitors! In the first test: a little ambassador from the North Pole, a fabled pudding and a classic yuletide candy. The chefs get an icy inspiration for the second test, along with a starchy packaged food and a colorful refreshment. When the last two chefs compete in the final holiday hoorah, the cakes test, they must find a way to make chocolate treats work with beets and a magical inspiration.
With a bright light inspiration, the chefs attempt to make excellent chocolate desserts that include one blue mandatory ingredient and one yellow one. Then in the candy test, Chef Ron has another entertaining, inspiring surprise for the competitors as they concoct ways to incorporate a shockingly colorful tuber. Get ready for a trip back in time, as our final two chefs receive a spicy snack as a mandatory ingredient.
The chefs rocket into the competition, creating space-themed chocolate desserts from Italian olives and a retro candy. The three competitors who move on must get amped up over amphibians in the second test and figure out how to make genius candy with a green super food and an orange delicacy. In the final test, the chefs ponder the meaning of a leaning tower and how to effectively use two savory ingredients in their cakes.
Will the competitors truly embrace the power of their Parisian inspiration as they make chocolate desserts from chicken stock and a Southern candy treat? The three remaining chefs endeavor to make candy creations from fennel and a juicy fruit, as they keep a meddling deity in mind. In the final cakes test, a heavenly, twinkling inspiration and two assertive ingredients make for an intriguing final match-up.
The chefs can't believe their first inspiration flying through the air, as they set out to make chocolate desserts that include ketchup. In the candy test, the chefs are spun in a new direction with a childhood inspiration and instant noodles and mild fruit as mandatory ingredients. The chefs are struck by a bolt of inspiration as the first test begins, and they must find a way to make a pasta and spicy candy work in their chocolate desserts. Then, in the candy test, the chefs must figure out how the mystery ingredients can be folded into their origami-inspired desserts. For the final test, the chefs' cakes must honor Chef Ron Ben-Israel's very personal inspiration.

With an armored animal as inspiration and a breakfast cereal as mandatory ingredient, the chefs must find a way to make delectable chocolate desserts. Just three chefs make it to the candy test, where Chef Ron Ben-Israel challenges them to reflect on an awe-inspiring art. A retro hairstyle and savory ingredients are a lofty challenge in the final cake test.
A master musician inspires creative choices in the first test, as the chefs churn out chocolate desserts with cheese and chili ingredients. A breakfast food ingredient in the second test leaves the chefs wondering if their candy desserts will be glowing successes or dim failures. The chefs are aflutter with excitement when the fluttering inspiration for the first test is revealed: butterflies! On a wing and a prayer, the chefs try to create amazing frozen desserts with candied ginger and squid ink as mandatory ingredients. Then the remaining chefs' Desserts I.Q.'s are tested with a baked desserts competition, featuring a luminescent inspiration and a gelatinous ingredient. And during the final face-off, the two chefs left must create chocolate desserts inspired by a favorite childhood amusement and including a fowl ingredient. When they present their last desserts, will they feel like sitting ducks before Chef Ron Ben-Israel?
The heat is on when the lights go off! Darkness is the inspiration for the first test. And the chefs are challenged to use a spicy hot candy and a rare fruit in their frozen desserts. In the second test, a bejeweled egg and a bottle of bubbly set the stage for some sophisticated baked desserts. And when the final test of genius involves a bone-chilling ingredient and a gritty inspiration, it is a fight to the finish to see which of the remaining two chefs will take home the $10,000.
Relax! A very Zen object of inspiration takes the spotlight in the first test. But can it calm the nerves of the four aspiring geniuses, who must make fabulous frozen desserts using jelly beans and hot sauce? Then when the second test gets underway, the competition gets stinky. The chefs try not to let a foul-smelling fruit distract them from their singular goal of creating desserts inspired by a fabled one-horned creature. Then for the final test, '70s fever takes over! With a disco ball as inspiration and carbonated candies as a mandatory ingredient, the final two chefs must rock out delicious desserts if they want to secure the Sweet Genius title and the $10,000 prize.
Fire! The chefs are burning to jump to it when they see the inspiration for the first test. And a Sweet Genius should know just how to make cheese puffs work perfectly in a frozen dessert. Then in the second test multi-colored treats are a mandatory ingredient and multiple techniques are utilized by a creative crew of chefs. And in an intense final test, the chefs are inspired by a Chinese Dragonhead and required to use an unusual Mexican delicacy.
Inspired by a jellyfish in a tank, the chefs dive into the first test. But can they make sweet and sour mandatory ingredients work swimmingly in their frozen desserts? Then in the second test, are diamonds a chef's best friend? The competitors are given that glistening inspiration as well as mandatory ingredients, duck fat and fusilli, as they attempt to make delicious baked desserts. And in a nail-biting final test, the chefs' fate is, literally, up in the air.
Life's a beach! But pastry is no walk by the shore! Four chefs are presented with a conch shell as inspiration for the first test of genius, and, apropos, seaweed as a mandatory ingredient. But when the tide rises, which three chefs will be left standing? Then when the chefs are encouraged to think globally in the second test, are they in for a world of trouble? Things take a bitter turn with a rare Asian fruit as a mandatory ingredient. And when a colorful inspiration meets a dark beverage in the final test, the remaining chefs try fiercely to outwit each other, and someone's ego is wounded.
Don't crack under pressure! In the first test of genius, the chefs must cook frozen desserts that include hard-boiled eggs. But they discover that success will be hard-fought when they set eyes on the challenging object of inspiration: a splendid treasure from the sea. None of the mandatory ingredients in the second test are usually used in desserts. But as they struggle to make it work, the chefs' imaginations are sparked. And when the final two chefs are given gummy candies for the last test, can they make purr-fectly yummy desserts inspired by a cat?
High hopes! Walking tall into the first test, the chefs are given heels as inspiration for their frozen desserts. But does the shoe fit with salt & vinegar potato chips? And Chef Ron watches to see whether experience will help or hinder the chefs' creativity. A reptilian inspiration and a childhood treat make for a terrifically challenging second test! Then Chef Ron Ben-Israel will decide once and for all who has hidden genius within, through a final test, featuring masquerade masks and candy apples. And things get very interesting when one chef appears to have forgotten something important in the oven!
