*sigh*
I'm a bit depressed this morning. I've been having a problem. Meat. I'm becoming increasingly despondent at the selection available at my local major chain grocery stores - and non of them seem to have in house butchers any more. In general I've been noticing over the years that the grocery stores are being more and more over run with convenience / frozen meals, and less and less variety of fresh ingredients. (although I will note that there is a better selection than ever before in the ethnic dried goods - always a boon). However, today my quest is meat.
Cuts that used to be 'cheap' and common place, are now either specialty items or not available at all. Flank steak, veal shanks, SOUP BONES, the only lamb is frozen cryovacced New Zealand Spring Leg of Lamb, and forget trying to find a beef brisket. My local farmers market, really is quite small and doesn't include any butchers (and only runs from May to Oct), and even when I'm in the big smoke, I find the farmers markets and butchers seem to be pretty limited and well boring in their selection. Without a larger freezer it would be difficult to buy a whole beef side - and it wouldn't solve my craving for fresh chorizo sausage, lamb shanks, beef bones for roasting for stock, and demi-glace.
So my fine foodie friends - any idea where an end of the world east coast girl can order vaccumm packed fresh meat over the internets or over the phone and not have to mortgage the house to try doing her own 'Montreal Smoked Meat', or even a bit of a taste of Roja Veija?

Sorry to hear about your dilema and good question....fresh meat via mail.....never heard of it. Frozen, sure but never fresh. As for the major grocery chains, I have to say that my locals (thanks Safeway and Coop) seem to be doing pretty good aside from: - Mirin....who the heck decided to drop Mirin from the list and
- Yukon Gold potatoes....see my other inquiry on this....they too have simply.....................disappeared!

Have you tried going to small ethnic grocers, or perhaps finding a restaurant that has some of the meats you desire and ask where they buy it from? Or why not speak to a manager at your local grocery store and ask why you can't find x, y, z. I wonder if that might spark some interest for the store to start carrying those meat products again.

I have a question and this is the only place that I can post it and maybe get an answer? Nothing on this website works properly. I keep losing my recipes or get only one page and in order to get them all, it says to sign in and I am already signed in but have to do it over again. The other question I have is why do you put some shows on the site but they don't have recipes such as Jamie's meals or pitchin in? The shows are there but nothing else. Is this not a recipe website? I find this very frustrating. I really wish you would go back to the way your old website used to be. I have never been on a worse website. Nothing works properly. Whoever put this website together has no idea what they are doing. Tired of seeing the "OOOOOPPPs" page pop up all the time. I just use the American one which is amazing. Sorry for the harsh email but I have tried contacting foodnetwork on the contact us page and that email keeps bouncing back also....OOOPS!!!!

Have you ever heard of NutraFarms ? They do "mail order" meats and seafood.
Redflag Deals Forum have a thread on them and I've read some very positive feedback.
