Sloppy Joes with Cheese
- prep time 10 min
- total time 22 min
- serves 4
1 pound (500 g) lean ground beef
1 onion, minced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon (5 mL) each chili powder and dry mustard
¼ teaspoon (1 mL) each salt and cayenne pepper
2 cups (500 mL) tomato sauce
1 small zucchini, shredded
4 teaspoons (20 mL) molasses
1 teaspoon (5 mL) cider vinegar
4 burger buns
1 cup (250 mL) Black Diamond Mozza Cheddar Shredded Cheese
1. In a saucepan over medium-high heat, fry beef, onion, garlic, chili powder, mustard, salt and cayenne, breaking beef up with a spoon, until no longer pink and onions are softened, 5 to 7 minutes.
2. Stir in tomato sauce, zucchini, molasses and vinegar; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
3. Meanwhile, halve buns (if necessary). Place, cut sides up, on baking sheet; sprinkle cut surfaces with cheese. Watching closely, broil, about 8-inches (20 cm) from heat, until cheese is bubbly and buns are golden, about 1 minute.
4. Divide bottom halves of buns among plates; spoon meat mixture over. Top with lids.
