Toffee Apple Crumble

Deliciously sweet with a crunchy topping, you'll love this treat by Sophie Dahl.
4 large cox apples, peeled and cut into chunks
4 pear, peeled and quartered
125 g unsalted butter
125 g dark brown sugar
zest and juice of 1 orange
Custard, cream or vanilla ice-cream to serveTopping
100 g spelt flour
100 g organic oats
100 g butter – cold and cut into chunks
100 g demerera sugar
1. Heat the apples, pears, butter, sugar and orange zest and juice until tender but not too soft.
2. Mix together the flour, oats, butter and sugar to make the crumble topping.
3. Put the apples into a dish that can go into the oven, top with the crumble mixture and bake for around 25 – 30 minutes at 180C/160 Fan.
4. Serve with custard, cream or vanilla ice-cream.Topping
