Simple is best when it comes to a tomato sauce like this herb filled one.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion, peeled and minced
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • a few sprigs fresh thyme
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 can San Marzano whole tomatoes (28 oz)

Directions

  1. Sauté the onions in a sauce pan over medium-high heat with the oil. Continue until softened and lightly golden. Add the garlic and continue for a few minutes. Using an immersion blender, standard blender or food processor, puree the tomatoes smooth then add to the pot. Stir in the thyme. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Simmer until slightly thickened, about 15 to 20 minutes. Serve with your favourite pasta.
