Chuck Hughes

Chuck Hughes is the co-owner and executive chef of Montreal hot spots, Garde Manger and Le Bremner.  He is also the talented star of such Food Network Canada and Cooking Channel (U.S.) shows as Chuck’s Day Off, Chuck’s Week Off and Chuck Eats The Street. His unbridled passion for entertaining translates into both memorable food and captivating television.
     
After beginning his career in some of the hottest restaurants in Montreal, Chuck partnered with his two best friends to form their company Crown Salts and opened Garde Manger in 2006 to rave reviews.  In August 2011, they opened their second restaurant in Old Montreal, Le Bremner with an equally warm reception from press and guests alike.

Beyond the long-lasting success of his celebrated restaurants, Chuck’s celebrity cooking career includes many highlights such as becoming the youngest Canadian chef to win on Iron Chef America, starring with nine other celebrity chefs on The Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs, joining an all-star panel of judges on Chopped Canada, and publishing two best-selling books for HarperCollins Canada, “Garde Manger” and “Chuck’s Day Off.” 

Chuck has starred in two Quebec TV series, À couteaux tirés and La Relève, and launched a line of products - My Kitchen Staples – an outstanding line of food items from local producers that Chuck himself uses in his home and restaurants. Food Network Canada’s Chuck & Danny’s Road Trip, marks the first time Chuck stars alongside best buddy Danny Smiles, as they explore and eat their way from coast to coast.

Danny Smiles

Danny Smiles

Danny Smiles is the chef at Chuck Hughes’ restaurant Le Bremner.  In 2013, Danny joined the third season of Food Network Canada’s Top Chef Canada, claiming the title of first runner up.   

Danny’s cooking career began at his parent’s small hotel in Montreal when he was 14.  He attended St Pius X culinary institute in Montreal, after which he travelled to Italy where he interned for Michelin Star chefs in the cities of Brescia and Soverato.  On his return to Montreal, Danny started working under chef and co-owner Chuck Hughes at Le Bremner and soon rose to position of chef.

Danny has traveled across Canada to participate in food festivals from coast to coast. In 2015 he received the honour of being the only Canadian chosen to compete in the inaugural S.Pelligrino Young Chefs Competition in Italy. 

Danny’s love of food and easygoing manner has led to regular appearances on local and national morning television shows.  He also starred in Giardino, a 3-part web series for Vice TV.  Now, alongside his best buddy Chuck Hughes, Danny co-stars in Food Network Canada’s Chuck & Danny’s Road Trip, exploring a Canadian culinary adventure from coast to coast.
