Canadian Restaurant Locations from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives

Guy Fieri’s road tripping adventures on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives have taken him across the United States and beyond. Before he ventured to Cuba, Spain and Mexico, he headed north of the border to Canada and has returned several times since.

Guy has sampled some of the most eclectic cuisine that reflects our country’s diversity, from roast duck pancakes to Jewish deli-smoked meats. Here are the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives locations that you can visit in Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver, plus some that are no longer open but still worth remembering.

Jackalope’s Neighbourhood Dive — Vancouver, BC

Season 30 episode Crazy Chicken and Twisted Burgers included a visit to the popular East Hastings Street dive bar. On the menu that day was the “Wake ‘N’ Bake Chicken,” boneless chicken breast topped with a southern-style sausage gravy.

Fable Diner — Vancouver, BC

In the season 29 episode Belly, Beef and Bratwurst, Guy stopped by Fable Diner on West Broadway in Vancouver. Here, he noshed on their roast duck pancake as well as their mouthwatering meatloaf.

Tuc Craft Kitchen — Vancouver, BC (CLOSED)

Tuc Craft Kitchen on West Cordova Street may no longer be open, but it definitely made an impression on Guy in a season 29 Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Vancouver stop. Their innovative take on shepherd’s pie, known as “lamb in a hole,” and the snackable pork belly crackling were a hit.

Corduroy Pie Company — Vancouver, BC (CLOSED)

Season 30’s Sausage, Shawarma and Scaloppini episode included a visit to gourmet pizza spot, Corduroy Pie Company. Although they’ve since closed, Guy was stoked to try their brick-oven pizza topped with cheese and a homemade Amatriciana sauce.

The Pie Hole — Vancouver, BC

Who doesn’t love a place where you can have pie as both your main dish and your dessert? In a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Canada stop during season 29’s Burger and Breakfast, Guy visited the popular Vancouver bake shop and sampled their raspberry cream crumble.

The Foolish Chicken — Ottawa, ON (CLOSED)

While in Ottawa for season 31’s Smokin’ Hot BBQ episode, DDD visited The Foolish Chicken in Little Italy for their menu featuring chicken, ribs, decadent desserts and oven-fresh cornbread.

The Tomahawk — Vancouver, BC

Season 13 included a visit to Vancouver’s Tomahawk for some roast beef, a French dip, and a steak and mushroom pie. This legendary diner is also known for its Skookum Chief Burger, made with an organic beef patty, Yukon-style bacon, a free-run egg, aged Cheddar and a sliced hot dog.

The Ace — Toronto, ON

A season 16 episode, Layers of Flavor included a visit to The Ace in Toronto. Guy tried their pork belly, the mac and cheese burger, and a Christmas burger, but their clubhouse is where it’s at when lunchtime rolls around.

Meat and Bread — Vancouver, BC

In season 13’s Old Faves, New Craves, Guy paid a call to Vancouver’s Meat and Bread. The porchetta sandwich was on the menu, followed up by a decadent maple bacon ice cream sandwich.

The Fish Counter — Vancouver, BC

Located on Vancouver’s hip Main Street, The Fish Counter was among the season 30 restaurant offerings in Standout Seafood. Guy and the DDD team sampled the British Columbia bouillabaisse, filled with an assortment of fresh seafood including salmon, halibut, cod and shellfish.

Pelican Seafood Market & Grill — Ottawa, ON

During a stop in Ottawa during season 31, Guy checked out Pelican Seafood Market & Grill on Bank Street. On the menu that day was a luscious lobster poutine, featuring fresh-cut fries, gravy, squeaky cheese curds and an entire lobster!

Occo Kitchen — Ottawa, ON

Season 31 also brought Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives to Occo Kitchen’s downtown Ottawa location for upscale pub fare using premium, locally-sourced ingredients. Guy sunk his teeth into their family recipe for Newfoundland cod cakes served with a creamy caper aioli.

Meat Press — Ottawa, ON (CLOSED)

You won’t be able to try this Ottawa deli for yourself since they closed in 2021, but Guy was able to experience their smoked duck sandwich in the season 31 episode Meat Sampler.

Caplansky’s — Toronto, ON

Authentic Jewish deli fare was the star of season 16’s Real Deal Roots which brought Guy to Caplansky’s Deli. Their College Street location has closed, but you can still sample smoked meat sandwiches, knish and brisket at Toronto’s Pearson Airport.

Jax — Ottawa, ON

In the season 30 finale, Cruisin’ Capital Cities, Guy checked out Ottawa’s Jax Restaurant in Centertown. A bistro-cafe that features locally-sourced brunch fare, the DDD crew was treated to an irresistible banana bread French toast.

Jethro’s Fine Grub — Vancouver, BC (CLOSED)

In season 12, Guy was treated to homemade pulled pork with slaw at Jethro’s Fine Grub. The Vancouver establishment is now closed, but fondly remembered for its iconic dish, the Gold Rush: pancakes stuffed with bananas, pecans and streusel.

The Rosedale Diner — Toronto, ON

In a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Toronto episode during season 17, Guy visited the Rosedale Diner for their Asian pork ribs. Also on the menu were popular brunch dishes like their classic Eggs Benny and chicken and waffles.

Art-Is-In Bakery — Ottawa, ON

The season 32 premiere, Creative Creations, included a stop at City Centre bakery Art-Is-In so Guy and the DDD crew could indulge in some of their scrumptious offerings. But it was the O-Towner doughnut – their take on the cronut filled with pistachio cream and raspberry jam – that had everyone drooling.

Hey Meatball — Toronto, ON (CLOSED)

Season 16’s Eurocentric included a visit to the now defunct Toronto establishment, Hey Meatball, on College Street in Little Italy. The establishment was known around the city for its spaghetti and meatballs and the Rodfather, a sandwich made with pork-veal-beef meatballs, marinara and pesto on fresh ciabatta.

Fresh Local Wild — Vancouver, BC (CLOSED)

Before the popular Vancouver food truck closed in 2015, season 13 of DDD brought Guy to Fresh Local Wild. He raved about their creative take on surf n turf, the BC seafood chowder poutine, and their chicken-fried oyster sandwich.

The Stockyards — Toronto, ON (CLOSED)

The Stockyards was one of Guy’s Toronto stops in season 17. They were excited to show off their burgers, fried chicken and mouth-watering BLT, but their BBQ smoked ribs was one of the main reasons that locals flocked to this smokehouse and larder until they closed in 2022.

Falconetti’s — Vancouver, BC

While in Vancouver during Season 13, Guy sampled the handmade Thai chicken sausage at Falconetti’s. This east side bar and grill is known for its delicious eats and live music to entertain you throughout the week.

The Lakeview — Toronto, ON

During Guy’s Season 16 trip to Toronto, stuffed French toast, a cornflake chicken club and an apple pie milkshake were ready to be devoured at The Lakeview. The restaurant recently underwent a makeover to both the interior and the menu, but still serves classic diner fare along with Jewish deli staples.

Peaceful Restaurant — Vancouver, BC

Family kitchens were the focus of the season 13 episode that brought Guy to Peaceful Restaurant in Vancouver. Some of their recipes have been passed down for generations, including their fresh hand-pulled noodles and beef rolls.

The Red Wagon Cafe — Vancouver, BC

Guy dug into some pulled pork pancakes with a side of Jack Daniels syrup at Vancouver’s Red Wagon Cafe in Season 13. The savoury shredded pork is featured in other dishes on the menu, including their ooey, gooey mac and cheese.

Save-On-Meats — Vancouver, ON (CLOSED)

Vancouver’s butcher shop, turned bakery and diner, Save-On-Meats, welcomed Guy in season 13. Locals flocked to this spot for their turkey pot pie, decadent burgers and ranchero shrimp benny until the owners pivoted to serving community meals to their surrounding East Vancouver neighbourhood.
