A recipe is merely words on paper; a guideline, a starting point from which to improvise. It cannot pretend to replace the practiced hand and telling glance of a watchful cook. For that reason feel free to stir your own ideas into this dish. When you cook it once, it becomes yours, so personalize it a bit. Add more of an ingredient you like or less of something you don't like. Try substituting one ingredient for another. Remember words have no flavour; you have to add your own!

Directions for: Ghoulish Halloween Punch

For the Severed Hand Ice Cubes

4-5 large surgical rubber gloves

For the Eyeballs

12 radishes

6 pitted olives, cut in half

For the Punch

1 L white grape juice

750 mL club soda

Grenadine, for drizzling

For the Severed Hand Ice Cubes

1. Fill rubber gloves with water and tie tightly. Freeze until solid then carefully remove gloves, using scissors if needed.

For the Eyeballs

1. Scoop out a small hole out of each radish, large enough to insert olive half. Insert olives to make '12 eyeballs.' You may also peel the outer layer of the radish exposing the white within and leaving red veins of skin.

For the Punch

1. Put ice in a large punchbowl and pour in grape juice and club soda. Float ice hands and eyeballs in punch and drizzle the glasses with grenadine 'blood.'
