Apple Pie Brown Rice

Throw a great twist on rice by kicking up the flavour with chopped apples and cinnamon!

Directions for: Apple Pie Brown Rice


4 slices bacon, chopped

1 splash water

1 onion, minced

1 cup brown rice

2 clove garlic

2 cup chicken broth or water

2 apples, cored and chopped

½ tsp salt

1 Tbsp cinnamon

1 bay leaf


1. Preheat your oven to 350ºF and turn on your convection fan if you have one.

2. Match a medium saucepan with a tight fitting lid. Add the bacon and a splash of water over medium heat. Cook, render and crisp the bacon, about 5 minutes. Add the onions and garlic and cook until translucent, about 3 minutes. Stir in the brown rice, stir, then follow with the chicken broth, apples, salt and spices. Bring the works to a simmer, cover and transfer the pot to the oven and bake until it the rice is tender and fragrant about 60 minutes. Serve and share!
