Brunch-Style Cheddar-Apple Crisp

Delightfully tasty, this dish combines rolled oats, cheddar cheese, apples, cinnamon and brown sugar served warm with maple yogurt.

Directions for: Brunch-Style Cheddar-Apple Crisp

Ingredients

7 cup (1.75 L) peeled and chopped apples

4 tsp (20 mL) lemon juice

1 cup (250 mL) Black Diamond Sharp Cheddar Shredded Cheese

6 Tbsp (90 mL) maple syrup

3 Tbsp (45 mL) all-purpose flour

¼ tsp (1 mL) cinnamon

1 ¼ cup (300 mL) large-flake rolled oats

½ cup (125 mL) chopped walnuts

⅓ cup (75 mL) packed brown sugar

¼ tsp (1 mL) salt

⅓ cup (75 mL) melted butter

1 cup (250 mL) vanilla or plain yogurt

Directions

1. In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice. Add cheese, 4 tbsp (60 mL) of the syrup, the flour and cinnamon, tossing to combine; spread in a greased 9-inch (2.5 L) square (or equivalent-sized oval) baking dish.

2. In a bowl, stir oats, walnuts, sugar and salt; add butter, tossing until combined. Sprinkle evenly over apple mixture.

3. Bake in preheated 350°F (180°C) oven until apples are tender and topping is crisp and deep golden, about 1 hour. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, stir yogurt and remaining syrup to combine. Serve apple crisp warm with maple yogurt.
