Directions for: French Toast Sandwiches

Ingredients

French Toast Sandwiches

8 slices whole wheat or multigrain bread

2 MacIntosh apples, cored and thinly sliced

3 large eggs

3 Tbsp milk (45ml)

butter

Adults:

4 slices Swiss cheese

4 slices deli turkey breast

2 tsp Dijon mustard (10ml)

Children:

4 slices medium orange cheddar cheese

8 slices turkey bacon, cooked

Directions

French Toast Sandwiches

1. Whisk eggs and milk together in a shallow dish.

2. Assemble sandwiches by:

Children: Layer bread with cheddar cheese slice, apple, turkey bacon, cheddar cheese slice, and top with remaining bread.

Adults: Spread Dijon mustard on bread slices. Layer bread with swiss cheese slice, apple, sliced turkey, swiss cheese slice, and top with remaining bread.

3. Heat 1 tbsp/15 mL of butter over medium heat in a large nonstick skillet. Dip sandwiches in egg mixture until coated. Cook in batches until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side, adding more butter to the pan, if necessary.

Tip: Serve with warm maple syrup, if desired. Sliced ham and cooked bacon would also work well here as a substitute for the turkey.

Adults:

1. Spread Dijon mustard on bread slices. Layer bread with Swiss cheese slice, apple, sliced turkey, Swiss cheese slice, and top with remaining bread.

Children:

1. Layer bread with cheddar cheese slice, apple, turkey bacon, cheddar cheese slice, and top with remaining bread.
