Directions for: Homemade Mustard


4 Tbsp mustard powder

½ cup yellow mustard seeds

½ cup water

1 cup cider vinegar

2 cloves garlic, chopped

1 Tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp salt

¼ tsp ground ginger

¼ tsp ground allspice

¼ tsp ground cinnamon


1. In a saucepan, whisk mustard powder, mustard seeds and water. Set aside. In another saucepan combine remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Whisk this mixture into the mustard mixture. Bring this combined mixture to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Pour into a stainless bowl and let stand for 2 to 3 hours. Put mixture into a blender and pulse twice. Pour into a sterile jar and let stand at room temperature over night. Refrigerate.

2. Yield: 1 cup (250 ml)
