ingredients

Oatmeal Base

cup milk

cup large flake or quick-cooking rolled oats

Tbsp brown sugar
½
tsp vanilla extract

tsp salt

Dried Fruit and Apple Oatmeal

Tbsp raisins or dried cranberries
½
Gala apple, cored and cut into small pieces, plus more for serving
¼
tsp ground cinnamon, plus more for serving
½
cup milk (whole milk, 2%, almond milk, etc.), plus more for serving

Peanut Butter and Jelly Oatmeal

Tbsp grape jelly or raspberry jam

Tbsp natural peanut butter
½
digestive or shortbread cookie, crumbled (optional)

S'mores Oatmeal

Tbsp vanilla or plain Greek yogurt

graham cracker, broken into pieces or crumbled

Tbsp dark chocolate chips

tsp cocoa powder

Step 1

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, oats, sugar, vanilla and salt. Bring to a boil, reduce to low and cook uncovered, stirring often, for 5 to 10 minutes, until thickened.

Step 2

Garnish with cranberries, chopped apple and cinnamon. Serve immediately with milk. Add more fruit and cinnamon if you wish.

Step 3

Pour cooked oatmeal into a bowl and top with a ribbon of jam, dollop of peanut butter and cookie crumbles, if using. Serve warm with additional milk.

Step 4

Pour cooked oatmeal into a bowl and top with a dollop of yogurt, graham cracker, chocolate chips (they melt) and a dusting of cocoa. Serve warm with additional milk.
