The recipe is the definition of comfort food - homemade sloppy joes in a hollowed-out Kaiser bun and topped with creamy macaroni and cheese.

Mac & Cheese

6 cup elbow macaroni, cooked

3 cup warm cheddar cheese sauce

salt and pepper to taste

1 bunch green onions

Sloppy Joe

1 lb(s) extra lean ground beef

3 Tbsp olive oil

2 clove garlic, minced

1 large onion, chopped fine

1 Tbsp Dijon mustard

2 Tbsp brown sugar

1 sprig fresh thyme, leaves only

½ tsp cayenne pepper

1 L tomato sauce

3 Tbsp red wine vinegar

salt and pepper to taste

¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped

6 large Crust Kaiser buns, hollowed out


Mac & Cheese

1. Warm the cheese sauce in a small saucepan. Add the cooked macaroni and cut scallions. Season the mac and cheese with salt and pepper to taste.

Sloppy Joe

1. Preheat large skillet over medium to high heat. Sauté the onions in the olive oil until translucent in color. Add the extra lean ground beef and the minced garlic to the cooked onions and continue to cook until the ground beef is cooked through - ensure to break up the beef into small pieces while it is cooking. Slowly add the Dijon mustard, brown sugar, thyme, cayenne, tomato sauce and red wine vinegar to the cooked beef mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and reduce the heat to low and simmer for 35 minutes. Remove from heat and season with salt and pepper and add the chopped fresh parsley.

2. Place 1 large ladle (4 oz) of the cooked sloppy Joe mixture into each hollowed out Kaiser Roll. Top each filled bun with the seasoned mac and cheese and garnish with grated Parmesan Cheese.

3. Serve warm and enjoy.
