Tbsp (30 mL) vegetable oil

onion, diced

clove garlic, minced

red bell pepper, diced
½
cup (125 mL) tomato paste

tsp (5 mL) dried chili flakes

Tbsp (30 mL) red wine vinegar
¼
cup (60 mL) brown sugar, packed

tsp (10 mL) salt

tsp (5 mL) black pepper

Step 1

Stir in tomato paste, chili flakes, vinegar and sugar. Cook for an additional 10 minutes.

Step 2

Heat oil in a small pot. Cook onions, garlic and red bell pepper until onions are caramelized on a low heat for 10 minutes, stirring often to prevent burning.

Step 3

Remove pot from stove and purée using a hand blender.

Step 4

Season with salt and pepper.
