Deep-Fried Key Lime Pie

Forget the traditional key lime pie you thought you knew; Porky's famous Deep-Fried Key Lime Pie has taken this island treat to the next level. Did you know that a true key lime pie is yellow, not white or green, and that key limes are smaller and contain more seeds? You’re welcome.

Directions for: Deep-Fried Key Lime Pie

Ingredients

Key Lime Pie

½ lb(s) (227 mL) cream cheese

¼ qt (225 mL) condensed milk

½ cup (118 mL) key lime juice

½ oz (14 g) gelatin

½ qt (250 mL) whipped cream

1 pre-made graham cracker crust

Coating

1 egg, as needed

½ cup (118 mL) breadcrumbs, as needed

Topping (Optional)

White chocolate sauce

Raspberry sauce

Directions

Key Lime Pie

1. Mix the cream cheese and condensed milk by hand for 5 minutes or until smooth. Add key lime juice to the mixture.

2. In a separate bowl, place gelatin in water and allow it to activate.

3. Once gelatin is ready, add to key lime mixture and make sure it is well incorporated.

4. Finally, add the whipped cream.

5. Lay the graham cracker crust at the bottom of the pie pan.

6. Fold the key lime mixture onto the graham cracker crust. Freeze pie overnight.

Coating

1. Remove frozen pie from freezer and slice a generous piece.

2. Bread a frozen piece of pie in eggs wash, and then breadcrumbs.

3. Fry the coated pie at 350ºF for 20 seconds.

Topping (Optional)

1. Plate the crispy pie and drizzle it with reserved white chocolate and raspberry sauce. Enjoy!
