Giant Slice of Pizza

Is your oven big enough to attempt the making of this signature giant slice? The epic creation features a 26-inch slice with mini pizzas on top, mozzarella cheese, your choice of red sauce, and a whopping total of 52 pepperonis! (Courtesy of Lorenzo Lamanna, Lamanna’s Bakery.)

Yields 1 giant pizza.

ingredients

Sauce

1
cup San Marzano tomatoes

tsp basil

tbsp olive oil

tsp salt
¼
cup basil, chopped

Dough

1
cup warm water
2
tbsp olive oil
2
tsp salt
8
gram yeast
3
cups flour

Step 1

For sauce, add all ingredients to a blender and pulse until well combined but not entirely smooth.

Step 2

Refrigerate and use when needed.

Step 3

For pizza dough, combine ingredients in bowl or mixer until dough comes together and is smooth and elastic. If too sticky add flour until desired texture is achieved.

Step 4

Form dough into a ball. Wrap and place in fridge overnight.

Step 5

Stretch proofed pizza dough into desired shape and place on baking stone or baking sheet. Add sauce and preferred toppings, such as cheese and pepperoni.

Step 6

Place in preheated oven for 15 minutes at 465ºF. Cook until golden on top and check the bottom to ensure it’s not white.

Step 7

While giant slice is in the oven, shape the rest of the dough into smaller mini pepperoni pizza slices. Place those in the oven for 10-15 minutes at 550ºF.
