When sushi first arrived in America, it landed in LA... where it was quickly California-ized. Octopus tentacles were replaced with cucumber slices, and grilled blow-fish was blown off for avocado and cream cheese. Nowhere is the customization of sushi more of a California art form than at one of Giada's favorite sushi restraurants - Hamasaku. In this episode, Giada and her friend go to Hamasaku for lunch, where they design their own rolls and have some fun with Toshi, Hamasaku's charming and personable owner. As a result of this experience, Giada is inspired to throw a sushi making party at home, and invites a few friends over to hang out in the kitchen and make their own rolls. In the process, Giada shows how genuinely easy and fun it is to make beautiful and delicious sushi, while providing helpful timesavings tips.
