I always look for ways to incorporate a bit of maple syrup into my meals; a drizzle of syrup onto my morning oats or a teaspoon in a cup of tea is such a treat. I decided to take a simple sugar cookie recipe and add maple syrup and a maple glaze. The result is pure heaven.

Maple Cookies with Maple Glaze

Maple Cookies
1 cup butter, softened
¾ cup brown sugar
¼ cup maple syrup
2 eggs
½ teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
½ teaspoon cinnamon

2 ½ Tablespoons maple syrup
1 cup icing sugar

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix together the softened butter and brown sugar until well combined. Mix in the eggs one at a time until combined. Mix in the vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl mix together the baking soda, salt, flour and cinnamon. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture until well combined.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Scoop 1 tablespoon balls of cookie dough onto the sheet about 2cm apart. Bake for 12 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown at the edges.
  5. While cookies are cooling make the glaze. Mix together the maple syrup and icing sugar. Drizzle maple glaze over the cooled cookies.
