Get in the spirit with this warm and soothing holiday drink. It’s spiked with spicy peppercorns and citrus flavour and mellowed with honey.

orange

mL bottle of red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon

Tbsp (75 mL) honey
1
cinnamon stick
10
whole black peppercorns

Step 1

Peel 1 long strip of peel from orange, avoiding the white pith as it carries a bitter flavour. Pour wine into a saucepan. Stir in peel, honey, cinnamon stick and peppercorns. Set over medium heat. Heat until steaming but not simmering. Adjust heat to continue heating and steaming. Allow flavours to infuse for 10 minutes. Remove and discard peel, cinnamon stick and peppercorns. Serve warm
