Molly Yeh’s delicious halva bars are not only simple to make, they are a great way to play around with some lesser-used ingredients like rosewater, toasted pistachios, and sweetened condensed milk. You’ll be back for seconds.

Nonstick cooking spray, for the pan

stick (½ cup) unsalted butter, melted

full graham cracker rectangles, crushed (1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs)

cup chopped dark chocolate

cups halva, chopped

cup chopped toasted pistachios

can sweetened condensed milk

tsp pure vanilla extract

tsp rosewater, optional

cups sweetened shredded coconut

tbsp food-grade dried rose petals, optional

Cooling time: 20 minutes

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Grease a 9-by-9-inch pan with cooking spray and line with parchment, leaving a 2-inch overhang.

Step 2

Add the butter to the prepared pan. Spread the graham cracker crumbs and salt evenly over the bottom of the pan. Add the chopped chocolate, halva and pistachios.

Step 3

In a medium bowl, stir the condensed milk with the vanilla and rosewater, if using. Pour evenly all over the layers in the pan. Sprinkle the coconut on top, then top with the rose petals if desired.

Step 4

Bake until the edges are golden brown, about 25 minutes. Let cool before cutting into bars.
