I’ve combined the deliciousness of a crumble with the simplicity of juicy baked apples! You can make these ahead of time and just pop them in the oven and serve warm and fresh!

Why I love this recipe

My Granny and I used to make baked apples all the time when I was young, I think adding the sweet crumble to the middle really brings out the flavour and makes this a scrumptious dessert!

ingredients

medium to large apples (Mac, Spartan, Ida work best)
½
cup old fashioned oats (not instant)

Tbsp butter

cup all-purpose (or gluten free) flour

Tbsp demerara sugar (brown sugar)
⅛ tsp salt

tsp cinnamon

cardamom seeds, shelled and finely crushed

cup water
½
cup orange juice

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2

Core the apples and rinse with cold water, place in a dutch oven or baking dish.

Step 3

In a medium sized bowl blend salt, 1/2 the cinnamon, cardamom, flour. Mix in 3 tbsp brown sugar. Cut in butter and work with your hands until blended and crumbles.

Step 4

Spoon crumble mixture into the core of the apples and pack down.

Step 5

Pour the orange juice evenly into the middle of each apple then Pour the 1/2 cup water into the bottom of the pot.

Step 6

Sprinkle remaining 2 tbsp brown sugar and cinnamon evenly over the apples.

Step 7

Place on middle rack of preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes or until apples seem soft and just begin to fall apart.
