I first tried this recipe with lychees, sugar, and vodka and found it to be too sweet. Grapefruit juice added just the right amount of acidity. Yield is 1 cocktail.

fresh lychees, peeled and pitted
pinch sugar
Ice

cup grapefruit juice

cup vodka

lychee, pitted, for garnish

Step 1
Put 7 of the lychees and the sugar in a cocktail shaker.
Step 2
With the handle of a wooden spoon, crush the lychees.
Step 3
Fill the shaker with ice, and add the grapefruit juice and the vodka.
Step 4
Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass.
Step 5
Garnish with a lychee.
