Bottom Layer

cup butter or margarine (125 ml)

cup milk (125 ml)

squares semi-sweet chocolate, grated

egg whites

Tbsp white sugar, add to egg whites (30 ml)
Middle Layer

cup icing sugar

egg yolks

cup butter or margarine
Top Layer

squares semi-sweet chocolate

Tbsp butter or margarine (30 ml)

Step 1
Cream the butter and 2/3 cup sugar. Stir in vanilla.
Step 2
Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
Step 3
Beat egg whites with 2 tbsp. sugar until stiff.
Step 4
Fold in grated chocolate and stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into greased 9 x 9-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 25 minutes. Cool.
Step 5
Combine icing sugar, egg yolks and butter until smooth. Spread over bottom layer.
Step 6
Melt chocolate and butter. Mix well. Spread over middle layer. Refrigerate. When top layer is set. Cut and serve.
