1 cup basmati rice
3 tablespoons salt
1. Add salt to 4 cups of water and stir until dissolved. Soak the rice overnight (or for a minimum of 4 hours), in salted water.
2. Drain water then rinse rice in a colander under cold water. Transfer rice to a medium-size pot or pan. Add 3 cups boiling water, cover with a lid and cook over medium-high heat for approximately 6 - 8 minutes, or until rice is al dente (almost cooked, but with a little bit of opaque white still left in the center of each grain. Strain off water and rinse rice in a colander under cold water.
3. Return rice to the pot, cover with a towel and place lid overtop. Over low heat, steam rice for approximately 6 - 8 minutes, or until the residual water has evaporated and what’s left is fluffy rice that separates easily when prodded with the tines of a fork.
