What are the lavender drinks at Starbucks?

According to Patrick Penny, a lead beverage developer at Starbucks, lavender has been a popular request from Starbucks partners. After a trip to a lavender farm in Washington state, the Starbucks beverage development team was inspired to create two lavender drinks, perfect for spring: the Iced Lavender Cream Oat Matcha and the Lavender Oat Latte. Starbucks says they are “introducing lavender to the spring menu as the latest innovation and unique experience that brings floral hues and delicate aroma with every sip.”

Iced Lavender Cream Oat Matcha

Iced Lavender Cream Oat Matcha is a smooth and creamy matcha with oat beverage poured over ice and topped with the new lavender cream cold foam. Patrick says that “when creating the new Iced Lavender Cream Oat Matcha, [they] wanted to capture the uplifting energy of spring in a cup.” The visuals of this beverage are enough to do just that. The light green from the matcha and the pastel purple from the lavender cream cold foam resemble a field of lavender blooming. It is absolutely gorgeous but how does it taste? We must admit that before we tried this drink, we were not the biggest matcha fans. However, this spring bevvy has changed that! The lavender cream cold foam neutralizes the matcha a bit, making for a creamy and sweet sip. Sometimes lavender drinks can be super floral and taste almost soap-like, but that is not the case here. It’s sweet and refreshing! We would love to try the lavender cream cold foam on top of a cold brew or iced coffee.

Lavender Oat Latte

The Lavender Oat Latte (which is available both iced and hot) includes the sweet lavender flavour with Starbucks Blonde Espresso and the oat beverage. Blonde espresso is also used in the Oleato (olive oil) coffee and the famous Brown Sugar Oat Shaken Espresso. It is smooth and sweet so it blends well with lots of flavours including lavender. This beverage is slightly more floral than the Iced Lavender Cream Oat Matcha but we still enjoy it! While we love an iced latte, the lavender does blend a bit better in the hot latte in our opinion. It melts perfectly with the oat beverage and it brings out the sweetness of the Blonde Espresso even more. We can definitely see ourselves sipping both versions of this sweet, creamy, floral latte all spring long.
